The Mutton Renaissance
Just five short years ago Maldwyn and Margaret Thomas started, what today they can call their own revolution. It was not only a complete change for the traditional Welsh Hill Farmer, becoming a component of the new electronic marketplace of the Internet, but an opportunity to promote their products themselves and in their own way, with their own messages. In 2000 it was the inclusion of Mutton in their product range that took them out in front of the market alone and in isolation - They started selling Mutton, direct to the 'Kitchen Door' from their little known welsh hill farm. Now five years later many more producers and dealers have joined them in the 'Virtual' market place and in the earlier part of 2004 there was a new marketing force established 'Mutton Renaissance'. The United Kingdom Sheep Farmers Organisation and The Academy of Culinary Arts,
established this new 'marketing' body, for mutton, in Bryste (Bristol). As they say, the rest is history. However there is an untold continuous story of support from 'Organic Aran-Lamb' for the new marketing body from its onset. Every Farmers Market, Organic Food Fair, Fresh Food Festival at which 'Organic Aran-Lamb' has been represented by a stall or just as a participant has been an opportunity to pass out a copy of the excellent colour brochure the Mutton Renaissance produced. However, there is more, every Order despatched by 'Organic' Aran-Lamb has had a copy of the brochure included in the delivery box. Yes a few thousand brochures have been distributed to and in the market. This has helped the development of the market nationally, as these order boxes have been sent out across the whole of the UK and parts of Europe. Now at last there is the opportunity is provided for the Mutton Renaissance to have a presence on the 'Internet'. 'Organic' Aran-Lamb is both proud and pleased to be able to take this opportunity to add even more support for the effort being provided by this market initiative. We appreciate this valuable opportunity to help develop the market for all the other Welsh Sheep Farmers. This is their support point developed on the basis, the increase awareness of Welsh produced meat in the National market is in everybody's interest.
